HTMA- An intro to support optimal health
It’s been a summer of transitions over here at the Magnolia Wellness and Nutrition home front. How about your summer, does it feel like it’s flown by? My family and I moved into a new city/town, celebrated birthdays, swam in our pool, and on a professional front, I have incorporated a functional screening test called, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) into my services!
I believe that before your body can start healing you need to begin at the ground level. I also believe that being in tune with your body and its symptoms can communicate and signal when something is off. I’ve had a handful of clients tell me the one thing they wish they had in working together would be some type of lab or concrete number, to see the connections between their symptoms and their results. So here it is, a beautiful combination of foundational nutrition work mixed with the HTMA screening test!!
I mean it can be difficult to get excited about if you don’t know what it is, so let’s get cozy and get right to it, shall we?
What is HTMA?
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a biopsy that reads the mineral discharge and heavy metal load in the cells from your hair over a 2-3 month time span. It’s important to know that HTMA is not a diagnostic test, however it is a screening test of what’s going on within your body. From this sample we’re able to get a reading of what toxins your body has been exposed to, as well as the rate in which it’s detoxing toxins, connecting mineral balances or imbalances with your symptoms. It also measures your metabolic type (the way in which your body metabolizes what it consumes) and it correlates to the way your body is releasing energy, via your thyroid and adrenal glands (oxidation).
If you’re someone who has had “normal” blood tests and yet you still feel unwell or feel that something is off, it could be that a blood test isn’t giving you the full answer. I’ve heard this from so many friends and family members.Their tests come back looking like a million bucks, yet they feel less than stellar. Blood tests can be a great resource, but it doesn’t read the mineral and heavy metal levels in your body. Mineral levels are typically low on a blood test and seeing a full picture of trace elements can be difficult. Testing the blood for toxic metals is difficult and rarely shows up if you are constantly being exposed to them over time and HTMA is able to pick up on the trace minerals as well as the toxins.
If you’ve been around my little corner of the internet world, we’ve chatted about micronutrients being essential to your survival and you thriving through life. It’s because minerals (a micronutrient) are the spark plugs in our body.
Here are a few jobs minerals have:
They help thousands of enzyme reactions for every system in your body
They coordinate the transfer of nutrients across different cell membranes.
They keep the body in balance
They support the contraction and relaxation of muscles
Important for nerve impulses throughout your body
Keeps pH balanced
Minerals will ONLY be absorbed through the food we eat
What will you learn from HTMA?
Metabolic rate, or how fast/slow your body metabolizes nutrients
Stage of stress and your stress levels
Immune System Function
Adrenal and Thyroid Function
Carbohydrate Tolerance
Energy Levels
The best food protocol to support your metabolic type
Tendencies for 30+ illnesses
Who is HTMA for?
Anyone and everyone…anyone older than one year old. This test is for the person who is struggling with infertility (men and women), preconception, prenatal, postpartum, anxiety, depression, diabetes, menopause, ADD, ADHD, Autism, PMS, PCOS, Hashimotos, hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, and so much more.
If you have questions about how HTMA can serve your better health, book a discovery call or jump right in.
For the mama (or dad) ready to get themselves taken care of or for the one who’s ready for more answers, let’s get started!
A family favorite as of late and really the easiest way to replenish our magnesium! Magnesium is the most difficult mineral to obtain in our food and the quickest to be lost in our body through stress. It’s seriously, the beesknees. This lotion is helping support our achy growing pains to a restful night sleep.
